Hi, Evelyn,
I guess I was most concerned about you and your trip and your searching. I
wasn't sure if you were already on your way or not. Some indexes are there
for our use. Never know if you could sweet-talk them into anything or not.
Friday they were still too numb and mad to allow any leeway. He would lose
his job for non-compliance. Perhaps things will be changed when you get
here.
I was in the St Louis main, downtown library last month. It's opened to the
public. They have much microfilm for Missouri and Illinois, including the
Soundex. That was the first time I used that, and it's pretty neat. The
bound, published books are upstairs. The microfilm is downstairs. They
have a few internet computers to be used by customers but you have to check
in at the desk and be put on the waiting list if other customers don't show.
Have a safe trip.
Dorothy

Hi Dorothy
We are so sorry to hear that this has happened. The staff in the
CCCH has been a blessing to us in our research. They do bend
over backward to help us when we have researched in the past.
Understand that in St. Louis, a certified genealogist may have
access to the record room if they have a letter of permission.
Do not know all the details, but amateur researchers are not
allowed access to their files/books.
Sorry to hear that "someone" felt the need to poison the well
that was so refreshing to us.
