Looking for cemetery or gravesite of our second great-grandfather, John M.
Clayton, born ca. 1839 in GA, died 16 March 1869 in Centralia, Clinton
Co.,IL or Marion Co., IL. We are looking to see if he has a tombstone. He
was a Southern Unionist who fought with the 1st Alabama Calvary Co. B,
U.S.A. He moved his family from Alabama during the Civil War for protection
to Decatur, IL then to Marion Co., IL. We think that he died in a Clinton
Co., IL hospital in March the 16th of 1869 and his family returned to
Alabama. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Scotty Kent
Burleson
