My cousin and I have been going through old photographs. My grandmother
had pictures back to an ancestor who fought in the War of 1812 [when he
was older of course] but, like most people, she didn't identify them.
She probably got the older pictures from her mother-in-law and didn't
even know who they were but she saved them. Here's some web sites I have
come across that might be useful if you are doing the same.

identifying old family pictures:
