Dear Dorothy!
How are you? Hope that all is well with you and family. My family is doing very good! I'm working as a deckhand on the ferryboat "John Cannon/GR-1" here in Grafton, Illinois. Having a lot of fun!!
Anyway, what can you tell me about the Works Progress Administration? I seem to remember something that I had read some time ago where this program did transcribe immigration records from some of the major ports of entry, specifically, New Orleans. Bear with me a little bit more....it seemed to me that I had read that what they did was to record all the lists of passengers that came in through New Orleans. Could this have been the microfilm of the lists? Or maybe a book of sorts?
If you know of something like this......please let me know, if possible. Also along this same line of thought.....there were passenger lists on microfilm and I am familiar with these, but wasn't there a similar list of records from the immigration office itself in New Orleans, more or less as a backup to the actual lists them selves. Hope that I am getting my thoughts over here!! Wasn't there a separate listing of sorts?
Hoping to get a book going this year as concerns my family - Ripplinger. Of course I still have some blanks to fill in but really have a lot of stuff that needs to be printed. All of it on one disc here on my computer. When it is done, I will be sure to send you a copy or two.
Thanks, I hope that I did not burden you down with too much information/Questions!!!
Thanks again for all that you and Carol do. It is greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Lawrence Ripplinger
Grafton, Illinois
