hello list,
does anyone have a copy of 1870 -80-90 census that can d o a look up in
iroquois or kankakee county for the family of john hall gernon, born in
ardee, ireland, emigrated to beauharnois, montreal, quebec in 1835-40 and
latezr emigrated to st. mary's (beaverville) , iroquois county , then later
to kankakee.he studied medecine at mc gee university at montreal, he was a
horse and buggy physician in iroquois-kankakee area. he had several children
and one son was also called john hall gernon and became a doctor, studying
at university of chicago, there were at least two more physician sons in
family. my grandmother was born to jh gernon (the younger) in beaverville in
1893, his eldest child, the other 7 children followed after that date. there
were several physicians in this family too, my grandmother was one of the
first women to study medicine as a doctor at the university of chicago- she
was recruited as a navy french-german translator in WWI, working with gen.
pershing. she married james t. burns in 1919 after war -they were married in
uniform, he army, she navy. i cannot find any info on early gernon arrivals
in iroquois-kankakee counties- i founf john hall gernon jrs.'s marriage
records around 1872-3, so i know the family was there already at that date,
but i have not been able to find more. any help in lookups or suggestion
would be appreciated, i looked on IL BMD records and have found nothing, i
can't even find my father's records when i went to office, much less my
grandfather or great granfather's....any suggestions on what to do now?
thank you in advance, regards, mary
