Hello:

For the ancestor that died in 1916, you can go the the web site of the Illinois Secretary of
State
and lok up the death in the Death Index. You can also order a death certificate thru them.
While you are at that site, read about IRAD and see what records they have for Kankakee County.
I believe their charge is only 25 cents a page.

I am not sure what good it would do to find out the names of the funeral homes. I doubt if many
would have records back to that date and if they do, I doubt if they would do any kind of lookup
for "gratis". That would be asking an awful lot of a business person.

Your best bet might be to get the exact dates of the deaths of your ancestors and then have
someone from the Kankakee Valley Genealogical Society look up the obits for you. Their research
rates are very reasonable.

You can also go down to your local Family History Center (LDS-Morman Church) and rent some of
the microfilms on Kankakee County. There are microfilms on Census, births, narriages, deaths,
and others.
