Susan Carol Mills, 50, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at the Memorial Hospial
of Carbondale.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton.

John Melvin "Jack" Wiggs, 80, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at
the V. A. Medical Center, Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2002 at the
Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton with Rev. Emmitt Jackson officiating.
Burial with military rites performed by the Benton American Legion and
V.F.W. will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Visitation
will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Wiggs was born Aug. 11, 1922 in Browning Township, Franklin County, the
son of John and Marie (Taylor) Wiggs. He married the former Della Mae
Hawkins in 1939 and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1985.
He was the owner and operator of J.M. Wiggs Trucking in Benton. He was a
U.S. Army veteran of World War II and an ex-P.O.W., a member of the Benton
American Legion and V.F.W., and attended a non-denominational church in

Jill and husband Steve Lampley, West City, Pam Streuter, Marion, two
great-granddaughters, Olivia Jade Wiggs, Benton, and Bethany Streuter,
Marion, a brother, Dr. B.G. and wife Lou Wiggs, Seymour, Ind., a nephew,
Teddy Wayne Wiggs, Pensacola, Fla., and a niece, Carol Wiggs, Seymour, Ind..
Mr. Wiggs was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the
Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton with Rev. Jack Wolfe officiating. Burial
will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dahlgren. Visitation will be from 6
to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ms. Mills was born March 21, 1952 in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Jack and
Mary Lou (Tedford) Mills.
She had worked as the Social Services Director at the Benton Healthcare
She was a member of the Benton Business and Professional Women's Club, the
Franklin County Arts Association, and the First United Methodist Church in
She is survived by her father, Jack Mills, Bloomington, three sisters, Mary
Mathis and fiancee John Ramsey, Sesser, Rita Mills, Bloomington, Lois and
husband Mike Lalley, Mesa, Ariz., three aunts, Jean Osborn, Pana, Anita
Goldsmith, Middletown, NY, and Carol Heintz, Hot Springs, Ariz.
Ms. Mills was preceded in death by her mother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and
will be accepted at the funeral home.
She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Ruth Dolores Dixon, 87, died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Herrin
Services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, Aug. 31, in the First Baptist
Church, Sesser, with Brother Woody Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the
Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday to the
Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser.
Mrs. Dixon was born on Nov. 18, 1914, in Lyford, Ind. the daughter of John
and Letha (Clark) Clinton. She was married to Ralph Dixon and he preceded
her in death.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sesser.
Survivors include a son Ralph and wife Ruth Dixon of Sesser; two
grandchildren, Dennis Dixon of Benton and Deanna and husband Lito Tacderas
of Carterville; one brother, Herman Clinton of St. Charles; sisters, Armitta
Siddens, Benton, Melba Loman, Sesser, Flora Coder of Buckner, and Mildred
Spann of Sesser.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant sons,
Johnny, Tommy, one grandson, Randy Dixon, three brothers and three sisters.

Knoxville, Tenn.
James Michael (Chapman) Fornear, 39, died on Aug. 28, 2002, after a long
battle with cancer.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 Tuesday, Sept. 3. at Tennessee State
Veterans Cemetery with full military honors by Volunteer State Veterans
Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the
Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel 1421 N. Broadway in Knoxville.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had worked at Triple A Cooper
until his illness. He was originally from Sesser, and settled in Knoxville
after being honorably discharged from the Air Force in Oct. 1982.
Survivors include his wife Lynette, sons Christopher McKenzie, Joseph
Fornear, Brian Fornear and daughter Kari Fornear and in-laws all of
Knoxville; parents Adam and Lynda Fornear; brother Kevin Fornear of Sesser
and special aunt, Cheryl Chapman of Benton.
He was preceded in death by father Robert L. Chapman, grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Fornear.

Jacqueline "Jackie"" Paterson, 36, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29,
2002, at her home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Morton & Johnston
Funeral Home wih the Rev. Ron Creemens officiating. Burial will be in the
Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday
until time of service to the funeral home.
Jackie was born in Benton on Aug. 12, 1966, the daughter of Philo and
Monalee (Bruce) Snyder.
She attended the New Life Church of God.
Survivors include her daughter, Ashley Patterson of Benton; mother, Monalee
Snyder of Benton; husband, John Patterson of Christopher; three brothers,
Darrell Snyder of Benton, Melvin Snyder of Christopher, Byron Snyder of
Christopher; several nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, a sister, Jeanna Marie and by
two brothers, Claude and Francis Eugene.

Fred L. "Fred" Sanders died at 1:23 a.m. Thursday Aug. 29, 2002, in the
Herrin Hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 32 in the Poulson Funeral
Home, with the Rev. C. A. Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the Mt.
Olivett Cemetery, McLeansboro. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m.
until time of service to the funeral home.
Mr. Sanders was born on April 11, 1934, in Carmi.
Sanders was raised by his stepfather, Charles Biggerstaff Sr. and mother
Velva Biggerstaff.
He was married to Kristina (Schultz) Sanders who died in 1996.
A retired service station mechanic, he was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Sanders of Benton and Robert Sanders of
Flora; one daughter, Wanda and husband Eugene Kandal of Benton; seven
grandchildren, Michael Sanders of Benton, Jacqulyn Sanders, Oklahoma, Robert
Sanders, Jr., Flora, Amanda Sanders, Flora, Margaret Kandal, Benton, Shaylyn
Sanders, Benton, Cassie Kandal of Benton; one great-grandchild, Dominick
Sanders, Benton; two brothers, James Yates, Benton, and Charles Biggerstaff
Jr. of Benton.
Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, one son, Frederick
Lee Sanders Jr. and one brother.

Murray, Ky.
Paul Lynn, 81, died in his home in Murray, at 12:45 on Thursday, Aug. 29,
He is survived by one sister, Opal Burkett of Benton.
