Subject: Geography question
Can anyone tell me if West Frankfort and Frankfort Heights are in Franklin
CO. Illinois? My father and this brother were born in these places in 1921
and 1924.
My whole life I believed that my father's name (it's on all official
documents)
was (initials only) Q. T. Smith. He also had a brother J.R.
This sort of made them unique in the Smith world,to have such unusual names.
Well, in my search of the just released 1930 census, imagine my surprise
when I found my dad as Quinneth Smith and his brother J.R. as Charles David
Smith JUNIOR!!! My Dad is six and J.R. is eight in 1920. Since the boys are
all gone now - my Dad two years ago, I cannot ask them what, if anything
they remember about these names.
They are too young to have appeared on the 1920 census, but I was hoping to
locate a courthouse or some such place where births were recorded (unless
this was a rural area then) to see if I can locate a record of birth for
Q.T. and J.R. and failing that, I was hoping that there was only one school
and maybe that school had a record of the real names of these boys as well
as actual birthdates.
Is (was-in 1920) Frankfort Heights a community within
West Frankfort? I think I probably first have to determine that - the real
address of the place. If I am "assuming" correctly, the address would have
been something like Frankfort Heights, West Frankfort, Franklin County,
Illinois. Is that a correct assessment? Is there a local genealogy
club/library or something where I might start my search?
Again, many thanks for and assistance.
Thanks for any assistance.
