Sheldon is absolutely correct.Sheldon is a shirttail cousin so many ways it
is astounding, and he is right, the shear numbers I have came up with is amazing!
What made me curious, 15 years ago,my father's memory was not good due to his heart and medication. He was always telling us stories about a great-aunt and how she was running with Charlie Birger. And then he told us,and several others that Pretty Boy Floyd
was at Shady Rest with Birger.HA! When she came down Memorial Day Weekend,1988,
She set the story straight. There was no blankety blank way in blank Pretty Boy Floyd was at Shady Rest,I was there,I know! She even talked like a bootlegger. That started me off,and I have been a maniac ever since.I got in to genealogy heavy during my Mother's last days with a rare form of cancer, and I have never looked back. I now do this for family, friends, and others. It is a passion. I have lupus, and it keeps me sane.
I have back 12 generations,10,twice,and 11, just on my Father's side, and at least that on my Mother's. I have found this to be mildly frustrating,to exhilarating. I can no longer
hunt,as I used to,so I did what I had to do to do this. I traded my shotgun for a computer.Good trade,I'd say. Since then,10/02, I have joined the Hamilton list, then Jefferson, and Franklin,in that order. My Heard family was only the third family in Hamilton, and I've just had a new line of Lamberts open up here in Franklin. My cousin,Nona Lambert Pritchard, was married to the Sheriff who hung Birger,James Pritchard,So,I guess I am where I should be. My surnames are
Lambert,Campbell,Heard,Brock,Gilman,McCoy,and Spencer,just to name a few.
I am glad to be here. Mickey Lambert

so I guess I am where I belong.

Melissa,
My story is pretty simple - I am very bad with names!
My oldest Uncle (now 85) started telling me stories that
he had heard from his parents and grandparents about
the life they had lived in Southern IL - "near Mt Vernon"
was all he knew. This was almost 25 years ago. My mother
is the third of 9 children and she has never been very
interested in her distant relations. She lived through
the Depression and all that entailed. My grandmother
always wanted the family to get together at least once a year
after she passed away, and I grew up with a large family
all around. It took me quite a while to realize the roots
of this "family emphasis" was from her mother's lifestyle
in IL. It has only been the last few years that my grandmother's
descendants have become so numerous and distended that we
can no longer really get together anymore.

Because my Uncle would start reeling off names, places, and
relationships like they were on the back of his hand - I
started to write them down, because I got confused pretty
quickly. Now, I am very grateful that I did - because
he now has Alzheimer's and can hardly recognize anyone.
He passed his stories on though, and I have learned so much more
than my Uncles and Aunts ever knew about the family. They
are amazed with what I have found out from genealogy research
- the shear number of relatives they never knew of.
The tens-of-thousands of cousins (literally) that tie us
and bind us to our heritage in southern IL is
beyond belief.

On this note, I am leaving tomorrow morning, heading to
Benton area on Thursday, and on to the WEBB reunion in
Bowling Green, KY this coming weekend. I will be back
on-line on this wonderful list around the 25th of July.

Take Care Cousins,
Sheldon Jones (Colorado Springs, CO)
