Most of the front page of the Benton Evening News, Benton, IL, Wed. 31 Mar
2004 issue is devoted to a photo and an article, about the Silkwood Inn, in
Mulkeytown, operated by the Mulkeytown Area Historical Society . Members of
the West Franklin Historic District and Genealogy Society hope to include
the structure with their organization. The photo and article is by Mona
SANDEFUR. The Silkwood INN was established in 1828; it was purchased in
1995, and volunteers have worked countless hours doing repair work. A state
grant on Oct. 7, 2000 of $46,000 partially repaired the old gymnasium, but
still a work in progress.
