(includes photo)
Vida Mae (HASTINGS) MABRY of Valier celebrated her 90th birthday with a
surprise birthday dinner on Nov. 20, 2004, given by her two sons and
daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The
celebration was held at Kristy's Restaurant/Dyel's Catering in Sesser and
was attended by nearly 100 friends and family members. Those in attendance
enjoyed a delicious meal, reminisced about favorite memories and
reacquainted themselves with the Hastings genealogy (courtesy of Bev BERNER
of Christopher and Sherri CARPENTER of Sesser). Door prizes were given for
the family who traveled the farthest: John and Ida SOBERRI from Winona, Ill:
for the next oldest person in attendance: Katie VANCIL of Dowell - 88 years
old: for the youngest person in attendance: Emma FURLOW of St. Charles,
Mo. - 6 weeks old: and for a "marked" chair: Charles KREID of Dowell.

Vida was born on Nov. 16, 1914, in Doniphan, Mo. Her family relocated to
Christopher sometime between 1920-1925. Vida graduated from Christopher High
School in 1935 and married Olen Ray MABRY in December of that same year.
Their older son Ron was born in 1942, and Roger followed in 1946. Vida
became a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed by Franklin Hospital in
Benton for 25 years. Today she resides in Valier and participates in
numerous area clubs such as Home Extension, Senior Citizens and the Valier
First Baptist Senior Ladies Class. Her immediate family includes Ron and
Sharon MABRY of Valier; Roger and Beverly MABRY of Valier; Brent, Kim,
Maren, Trey, Kobe and Zed KREID of Pinckneyville; Roger, Melinda and
McCalynn MABRY of Benton; and Mike and Becky BARRY of Harrodsburg, KY. Vida
would like to thank her family and friends who shared in her birthday
celebration for their love and thoughtfulness.
