I'd like to jump in on the McAllister discussion, just for old time's sake.
I grew up at 215 west 4th st. between 1946 and 1961. My name was Peggy
Reynolds. I remember that there was a McAllister family on 5th street
approximately across from Graskewicz IGA store. My mother knew who they
were, but I don't believe there were any kids my age. Anyway, a store down
on Douglas street ran a contest to win a TV set. You had to count the
number of black dots inside a drawing of a jar which was printed in the
Daily American. I think I was about 10 and I pored over that thing, finally
entering my guess. I was convinced that I would win. Well, Thora
McAllister won, and I was crushed!!!!! That's the sum total of my
McAllister knowledge.
