MILDRED A. (MANDRELL) LIGON
Formerly of Benton
Mildred A. (MANDRELL) LIGON, 84, of Mt. Vernon, a former Benton resident,
died at 3:58 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Good Samaritan Regional Health
Center, Mt. Vernon. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday,
Feb. 10, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Family and friends
are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in
Benton is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. LIGON was born March 7, 1920, in
Franklin County, the daughter of George and Pearl (RAGSDALE) MANDRELL. She
married Elmer Blaine LIGON on May 28, 1938, and he preceded her in death on
July 31, 1993. She retired as a playground supervisor at the Grant School in
Benton and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton.
Mrs. LIGON is survived by two daughters, Beverly FREY and husband, Bob, of
Freeburg, and Evonne DORRIS of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, Roger LIGON and
wife, Ruth, of Diamond Bar, Calif.; a grandson, Mike FREY and wife, Melinda,
of Lebanon; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Michaela and Trent FREY of
Lebanon; a twin sister, Hildred, and husband, Jerome WHITE, of Big Springs,
Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. LIGON was preceded in death by
her parents, her husband, a brother, Ralph MANDRELL; four sisters, Virginia
HAYES, June GILLIAM, Audrey LAFFITTE and Betty SILVERMAN; and two infant
sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist
Church or the American Parkinson Disease Association and will be accepted at
the funeral home.
