FLORENCE HAMILTON TOMS
Benton
Florence HAMILTON TOMS, 92, of Benton died Sunday morning, Feb. 27, 2005, at
the Westside Care Center in West Frankfort. Services will be held at 1 p.m.
Thursday, March 3, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton,
officiated by the Rev. Ron CREMEENS. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd
Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday to the
funeral home. She was born in Whittington, on Dec. 21, 1912,** (see below)
the daughter of Winfield Scott and Mary Jane (KING) HAMILTON. On Oct. 1,
1950, in Kennett, Mo., she married Oscar TOMS, who preceded in in death in
February of 1972.
Mrs. TOMS attended Whittington and Johnston City grade schools and Valier
High School. She was a domestic engineer and cooked at several restaurants
in Benton and the Chicago area. Mrs. TOMS enjoyed keeping house, working in
the yard, gardening, sewing and crafts. Survivors include several nieces and
nephews in Illinois, Arizona, Florida, Texas, California and Utah, including
special nieces, Deanna WILKERSON and Pamela SMITH and husband, Robert A.,
and their families of Benton. Mrs. TOMS was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, and by 13 brothers and sisters.
