Wanda L. ASKEW HAYES, 82, of Dowell and formerly of Mt. Vernon died 2:10 p.m.
Oct. 19, 2005, at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Arrangements are
pending at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, where you may call 242-3348 for
further information.

Wanda L. ASKEW HAYES, 82, of Du Quoin and formerly of Mt. Vernon died 2:10 p.m.
Oct. 19, 2005, at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. She was retired from
working at the Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory. Mrs. HAYES was born Dec. 20, 1922, in
Mt. Vernon to Charles and Grace (WELLS) ASKEW. She married William Edgar HAYES
Dec. 5, 1945, in Mt. Vernon; he preceded her in death April 14, 1991. Funeral
services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Dr.
John LEWIS will officiate. Burial will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in
Jefferson County. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home
in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. HAYES is survived by a son, William Eugene HAYES of Dowell; a daughter,
Brenda Grace DORRIS of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene ASKEW of Bluford; three sisters, Guelda
HUBER of Eldorado, Vema BLACKMAN of Stonefort and Neva June FITZSIMMONS of
Elkville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
parents and her husband. Mrs. HAYES was a member of First Christian Church in Du
Quoin. She loved flower gardening and country western dancing, often with her
children. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hughey Funeral Home,
where you may call 242-3348 for further information.
