WEST FRANKFORT - Dorothy DEASON SLOAN, 84, went home peacefully to be with
her Lord at 5:27 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 29, 1922, in West Frankfort to John W. and Florence
She married Curtis Leroy SLOAN on June 27, 1947, and he preceded her in
death Oct.8, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona K. and Frank
METZGER of Glen Carbon, Karyn and Ronald MCLAREN of West Frankfort and
Valeri and Brad BLEYER of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sandy
SLOAN of West Frankfort; 11 grandchildren, Steve, Curt, Mike and Eric
HAMMERS, Lesley RESTIVO, Garret JONES, Keith MCLAREN, Dan and Jacob BLEYER
and Jeff, Brett and Jason SLOAN; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Barbara MERCER and Linda BURKE both of West Frankfort; one brother, Roy
DEASON of West Frankfort; two sisters-in-law, Edith DEASON and Audrey
DEASON, both of West Frankfort.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Curtis; brothers, Walter,
Howard and John "Corky" DEASON; and sister, Mona ODUM.
Dorothy was a member of Freeman Freewill Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker and loving mother to all, always thinking of others
before herself.
Though she will be sadly missed by her family and friends, we take comfort
in knowing she is at peace with the Lord. The family is also grateful for
the loving care given by Cindy ANDESILICH, Ruth BURBANK, Sharilyn GRAMMAR,
Shirley LAZZERI, Francis MELVIN, Kendra SEVERNS and the Blue/West Team of
Hospice of Southern Illinois. Because of their love and care, Dorothy was
able to spend all her days in the home she dearly loved.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, in Parker-Reedy Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Kenny JOHNSON and Dr. Randy CARNEY officiating. Burial
will be in Denning Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday, May 26,
2007, at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Freeman Freewill
Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
