Beth,

Here's a little of what I have on the Goodman family.

On July 30, 1861, the county assessor made a list of men available for
militia duty in Gallatin County. It's found in the court records under the
title of "List of Militia of Gallatin County, Illinois." In the Hickory Hill
neighborhood the following men are listed: Lewis W. Fowler, John C. Lawler,
Abram Krank, Thomas Lawler, Patrick Lawler, William T. Crenshaw, Richard
Goodman, Elisha Goodman. All in all, the county reports 1314 men, and that's
after M.K. Lawler organized his company and Foster (another one of John Hart
Crenshaw's sons-in-laws) organized his cavalry company.
"I, N. P. Holderby, Assessor of the County of Gallatin do hereby certify
that the foregoing is a complete list of persons residing in said County of
Gallatin who are Subject to Military Duty under the provision of an Act
entitled An Act to Amend Chapter Seventy revised Statutes Entitled Militia
Approved May 3rd. In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this
July 30, 1861.
N. P.
Holderby-Assessor
Filed 30th July 1861
Jas. B. Barger,
Clk."
Note: The Elisha Goodman is the husband of Crenshaw's niece Nancy and the
son-in-law of the late Thomas Hart Crenshaw.
