I read all your queries with great interest.

I've been "lurking" on these Allen/Davis conversations. I'm airing my query
again, just in case there's new information and hoping my names will appear
in some of your stuff. Mine have similar naming patterns, arrived in IL at
about the same time and came from the same places. I just sense there is
some connection somewhere and may someday find the key.

I have James ALLEN, born April 12, 1813 in KY (supposedly near Louisville)
died September 28, 1890; buried Carlinville
City Cemetery
wife: Delila W. DAVIS (probably a widow, maiden name believed WOOD).
born December 14 1801 in VA (she gave various ages in
census)
"correct" taken from cemetery inscription, Keller
Cemetery, Macoupin Co., IL, death date November 1 1864.
("at age 63").
In 1860, Macoupin County, James and Delia Allen had 2 sons, John b. 1838 and
William b. 1841. His middle name was either Thomas or Thompson. James was a
carpenter--he apparently trained his sons in the same trade.

It is interesting--and unexplained--that Delia is much older than James.

Also noted in their household in 1860 was a 36 year old woman named Clarissa
WOOD. An earlier marriage record, Greene County, shows a Clarissa DAVIS
marriage to George WOOD. Presumably Clarissa was related to Delilah (Delia).

Side interest: also in the Allen household in 1860 was 19 year old Eveline
HALL She married son William T. ALLEN July 25, 1861. I've been unable to
find where Eveline came from nor to whom she is related--seems to have
dropped in from nowhere. Also, there is no record that William fought in the
Civil War--I have not researched Civil War records for his brother John. But
in 1870 they are partners in a farm in Chesterfield Twp., Macoupin County.

When I read your messages, I know there is a lot of research going on. I do
hope you will notice a couple of these names. I have William's descendancy
down to the present--in case anyone is interested. These names are haunting
me!

Thanks for listening. Jan
