Subject: [ILHAMILT-L] OBIT
Date: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 02:34:09 -0500
Hi Everyone....
I am sending this on because I may have made a mistake for James Roy McCarty
b. 06 Feb. 1893, d. 08 Feb. 1970 (s/o Michael McCarty (no info) and Martha
Lillian DAVIS).
Apparently, James Roy had three wives....I had Nola LIPE listed as the
mother for his six children. He also married Pearl GLOVER, In what order
....I do not know.
According to this obit...."Julia Ann CRADDOCK" (and until I see otherwise)
should appropriately be named
the mother of these children. It is interesting that they did not mention
"Martha" the 3rd child.
The Daughter in-law that is mentioned is 'Katherine WILSON". Thank you
cousin Mary Ann, for the "obit".
I have one question.....what is a "Order of the Rebekahs" ??
Following is an extract of the hard data from the obit:
Julia Ann Craddock McCarty, youngest daughter of John T. and Ann Foster
Craddock, was born in Flannigan Township, Hamilton Cty, IL on June 6, 1892,
and died at her home in Benton IL on Dec 24, 1938. Her father's family
came from TN. Her mother was dau of the late Rev. Samuel Riley Foster of
Hamilton Cty IL .... Primitive Baptist Church. She was educated at the "old
Center Flannigan schoolhouse in Hamilton" Cty.
Married Sep 27, 1912, to Roy McCarty in McLeansboro IL. Roy is son of the
late Mike McCarty. Marriage performed by the late Isaac H. Webb. Couple
moved to Benton IL Sep 1913, where they have since resided.
"To this happy union six fine children have been born, namely, Evelyn
McCarty, Mike McCarty, James Roy McCarty, Nancy Ann McCarty, and Joe
McCarty, all of whom, along with her husband, survive her." (Article claims
intent to name six, but names only five. Where's Martha? An oversight.)
Among family who cared for her in her "last illness" was her devoted
daughter-in-law, Katherine, wife of Mike McCarty (no other family was named
in this context).
In addition to immediate family, she leaves one sister, Dollie Odle of
Galatia IL, and five brothers: (all Craddock) Samuel R. of Benton, William
of Hamilton Cty, Richard of Benton, Merida of Normal IL, and Frank of
Hamilton Cty.
Pre-deceased by parents, one sister Dora Frances Duckworth, and four
brothers (all Craddock, of course): John C. and Orville, "who lived to
manhood," and Tilden and Arvie, who died in infancy. (12 child. in all)
Keen interest in schools and community, member and active in Order of the
Rebekahs, Lodge 238, at Benton IL.
Maybe Nola Lipe was second wife of James Roy Sr.?? He was only 45 at time
of Julia's death. Most of the kids would still be at home. Crystal Evelyn
and Michael were young adults.
