Feaky was the pet name by which Felix Gross' wife called her husband. So the
small settlement in the northwest corner of sectionm 26, township 6, range 7,
Mayberry Township became known as Feakeyville. Gross had established a general
store there that carried many items in demand, including barlow knives. He also
bought eggs, poultry, butter, and rabbits. He also opened a post office in the
store in April 1895.
The next owner of the store and also postmaster was Hardy Hughes. The post
office was discontinued in December 1902 and the area became RFD Broughton.
Hughes still owned the store at that time. Even though the hamlet was called
Hardyville while he was....
