Can anybody tell me why so many from the Hamilton Co. area went to Stoddard
Co., MO? Some of my Malones went around 1900 or shortly thereafter. Also
the Pyles went to Stoddard and ran a general store in a place called
Pyle(s)town. A few days ago Phyllis wrote about two Stoddard Co. obituaries,
one for Lorin Swinger from Robinson, IL, and the obit for John J. Haley, born
in Hamilton Co., was in the Dexter newspaper.
This Hamilton Co. area to Stoddard Co. migration pops up all of the time.
The people didn't always stay there. Swinger died in Pontiac, MI, and
Swinger died at his home west of Bloomfield, IL. My Malones went to CA,
although some of the family remained in Stoddard Co.
Was there a big boom in employment there? Perhaps the railroad? Does
anybody have an answer?
