Subject: [ILHAMILT-L] DAVIS families in Southern Illinois

Trev,
Interesting comment about some of Goodspeed's biographies sounding as if they
contained 1900 data in 1887. The book claimed an 1887 publishing date. Is
it possible that there were some changes made on a reprint along the way?

While I was doing the typing, I wondered why one of the Caywoods had reared
his head. However, I doubt that the particular William C. Davis mentioned
was Caywood unless there were four of then and not three. When last on the
subject, there was a Franklin Co. Caywood who died in 1883 at the age of 74,
and his children didn't match with this one.

That Caywood had a son named Caywood C. Davis, so his name wasn't William C.

The third Caywood was the son of William Cors Davis of Hamilton Co., and
William Cors Davis appeared in the Hamilton Co. census at the same time this
Wm. C. Davis appeared. They are two different men, so if this is happens to
be another Caywood who has sneaked in, he is #4.

Next planned: Davises appearing in the early census records. I hope it
doesn't take three more months to put them on the list.
Thanks for your comments.
Shirley
