But that doesn't mean that "Catherine" could not have been a middle name (or
vice versa). Who do you have listed for Catherine Oglesby's parents? The only
parents possible for Catherine & Charles Oglesby, that I can see, are Jesse &
Juliet (Karnes) Oglesby
She died at the home of her brother Chas. (#2 obit below). The only parents that
Charles & Catherine (Mariah) could possibly belong to are Jesse & Juliet
(Karnes) Oglesby. She is buried in Smith Cem. with her brother John Walker who
states in his obit he was born in Saline Co (again verifying the 1850 census)..
Tracing this family from Saline Co 1850 to Ham Co 1870 census, she is Mariah
K(atherine) age 4 in 1850, Mariah C(atherine) age 14 in 1860, and she is
"Mariah" age 24 with John L. and her two children Berry and Lucy, and her
brother Charles age 18 (he's age 8 with his parents in 1860) lives next door
with the John Anderson family in the Ham 1870 census.
Mariah Catherine marries John in 1863, files for divorce in Feb 1897, and she
dies in 1903 (need to see if devorce was final). From an obit of a younger John
Redfearn it says he is s/o John Rredfearn and 1/2 brother of Berry and that he
was about 39, indicating a 2nd marr. at about 1899 for John Sr. (or Jr. was
illigitimate?). When does your Redfearn researcher say that John Sr. married
Anna Pittman?? Could this be the mother of this John Jr.?? In 1901 John Sr.
marries Artemissa Darnell. There is a divorce filed in Sept 1903, could possibly
be between Artemissa and John?? In 1906 John marries Sally Garvin. Mariah's
father, Jesse Oglesby was in Co D of the 6th Calvary from Ham Co and was killed
in 1864, 14 months after Mariah married John. The family (Jesse's) is scattered
by the 1870 census. Jesse's pention records should have the necessary info to
prove who Mariah is. These are the only four marriages I see possible for John
Sr., unless I missed some tidbits:-). Again I reiterate my earlier statement
that Mariah & Catherine are the same.... but that's just my humble
opinion<g>.... I welcome (bring it on:-) any rebuttal....

For several years made home with son B.W. Redfern & dau., Mrs. Len Lockwood
of St. Louis, Mo. Leaves 2 ch., mother, 3 bro. Interr. Smith Cem., Twigg
Twp. (Ham. Co. m #2301; John L. Redfern = Catherine Oglesby 17 Dec 1863.
divorce: 1897, file 119-31) (See 1922-74) Could this be an earlier marriage
for John Redfearn?
