Bernice Damron
Bernice Louise Damron, 85, of Basco, Ill., died of cancer at 12:45 p.m.
Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at her home.
Born July 30, 1917, in Warsaw, Ill., she was the daughter of Oscar and
Caroline Zimmer Schilling. On Aug. 14, 1941, she married William Orville
Damron in Warsaw. He died Jan. 5, 1985.
Mrs. Damron worked at various secretarial positions and participated in
the family business, Damron Radio and Damron Insurance Agency as well as
being a homemaker.
At 2 when her mother died, she lived most of the time with relatives in
Seward, Neb., until her father remarried when she was 6. She then
returned to Warsaw and was a 1935 graduate of Warsaw High School. She
was a longtime resident of Basco. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran
Church in Warsaw. Since 1941, she attended First Baptist Church in
Basco, where she was active in the Amoma Class. Most recently she
attended joint services at Basco United Methodist Church. She was a
member of the Basco Walking Club and a 61year member of the Basco
Pinochle Club.
Survivors include three sons, John Milton Damron of Ottawa, Ill.,
Richard Alan Damron of Springfield, Ill., and James David Damron of
Basco; two grandchildren; one brother, Harold Schilling of Burlington;
two sistersinlaw; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her
stepmother, Henrietta Braun Schilling, one infant son, two brothers and
one brotherinlaw.
Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Friday at Lamporte Funeral Home in
Carthage, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Damron will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mary Gates officiating. Burial will be in
South Cemetery in Basco.
Memorials have been established for First Baptist Church in Basco and
Hancock Blessing Hospice.
