Paula the times that I was at Vinyard Cemetery, was years ago, and I went
north on Route 1 (we lived just off or route 1) to Karbers Ridge Road and
turned left and it was, if I remember right, just before you get to Karbers
Ridge. There was at one time quite a little village there, but Melba, my
sister drove us through there not too many years ago, and there is nothing
much there any more. The Karber's Ridge Road is not too far from the
Hardin/Gallatin line. I am referring to Vinyard #1 Cemetery. It is in
Monroe Precinct. I believe that Monroe is the largest precinct in Hardin
County. It seemed that way when I was copying off the censes of 1900/10 and
20. Thought I would never get done. There are new roads that I can't
account for, having been gone from there since 1948.
It was a year ago that I was up in Hardin County, and Melba took me all over
to the cemeteries. I enjoyed it so much. We visited a lot over in KY. My
brother is there now with his family. He has a son buried at Mt. Zion
Cemetery, where my parents, Orval and Estelle (McDowell) are buried along
with two of their children.
I have relatives buried in Vinyard #1 cemetery, the Vinyards married into the
Patton family. Wish I could give you more directions. From the description
given by some one, it appears there are new roads built since I left there.
The road to the Garden of the Gods is one. I was there while they were
building it, or clearing out the forest to get into the Garden of the Gods,
(years ago) and I went there on the Karber's Ridge Road from Route 1.
Hope you have a nice Holiday. It sure is hot here. But I guess that is what
is to be expected here in FL. Wanda
