I got this message on my administration email account and not this one so I
do think it went to the list. I hope it helps those of you thinking of
ordering the book make a decision.

Liesa

Hi Everyone,

I have both the Hardin County Past and Present and the History and
Families of Gallatin County (same format and publisher). They are both a
bargain for the price. Almost every entry (article) has the children and
grandchildren of the family, as well as ancestry for both the wife and
husband, sometimes going back into the late 1700's and early 1800's. In my
opinion, this book, combined with the Hardin Co. Cemetery Book, are THE 2
best reference materials I have seen for Hardin Co. We all know there isn't
much out there. Every time I go through the book, I find more links to my
tree. As everyone's probably figured out, most families from the area
(especially in the late 1800's and early 1900's) married into other families
in the close vicinity. Just because a family name doesn't have it's own
article, it is still probably in the book. Like any book of this magnitude,
it does have a few errors, but most of the genealogies are very
comprehensive and factual. I like to
cross reference with other records (census, IL State Archives Database,
ancestry.com, ect.).

I would give some examples of the articles, but I loaned mine to my
g. aunt who lives in Sparks Hill. I had the book for 3 months and only got
to the "D's, because I had so much info to put in my PAF program. I loaned
her the book because I got the Gallatin book, which has kept me just as
busy. She has lived there 80 years and she can't get enough of the book; she
says she has learned a lot. It is good reading, even the families you are
not researching is interesting. I will get it back from her next time I go
down there. If the orders start getting close to the 100, I will order one
for her.

I promise you, you will not regret spending the money on this book.
If anybody is near Harrisburg, I know the library there has it in their
genealogy section. I drooled over it for years until I found mine on e-bay.

Dave
