Thanks for the information.

I think you misunderstood me though. The interview transcript in the John W.
Allen papers identifies the subject as being 93 years old in 1949, but gives
his birthdate as August 1, 1865. Obviously the math doesn't work. However,
the 1939 sketch of William L. Davis in the Hardin County Independent gives
his birth as August 1, 1855, a decade earlier. As long as the interview took
place between January 1 and July 31, 1949, then William L. Davis would have
been 93 and the mistake made by the person transcribing the interview.

Both the 1939 article and the 1949 interview suggests the subject was well
versed in the history of the Cave-in-Rock/Rock Creek area having lived
through so much.
