Karen,

Looks like you'll not find an obit from Mt. Vernon. The State Historical Library has copies of
various Mt. Vernon papers on microfilm & their list shows the only issue in 1878 is for the News on
April 24th.

Early obits can be hit & miss. Sometimes newspapers reported them in the local (what I call) gossip
column; sometimes there were paid death notices.
