One of the responses was from Johnson Co. that was the one with a mother
listed as Elizabeth Thorton who was born in Tenn. The Rachel Thorton I
am researching was born in Ill. but a census record for Iowa 1880 listed
Rachel Thorton married to Charles E. Learned and her mother born in
Tenn. So it is probably this Rachel from Johnson Co. that I am looking
for.

The other census record was from Mercer County and the man of the family
Henry Thorton was 60 and born in N.C. Wife was Jane, 55 and the Rachel
in that family was 11. There were five other children in the family.

Thanks for your assistance. I am looking for my father's grandparents,
Charles and Rachel. Dad and his sisters and a brother were all separated
when their mother died. Before Dad passed away I was able to locate his
mother's grave and we visited it. That was really something. The search
goes on. Thanks again. Janet Learned Hevey
