I don't know if my Meltons are related to your Nathan Melton or not. It's
been difficult finding out anything about them other than what I have below.

My g-g-grandfather, THOMAS MELTON was born abt. 1821 in Kentucky, and died 6
Feb 1855 in Xenia, Clay co., Illinois, where he was a blacksmith. He married
EVALINE F BATEMAN in 1842, presumably in IL, daughter of ASAHEL BATEMAN and
MILLIE JOHNSON. She was born 10 Sep 1823 in Jefferson co., Illinois, and
died 21 Feb 1905 in Clay co., Illinois.

Children of THOMAS MELTON and EVALINE BATEMAN are:
i. MATARSON I MELTON, of Vermilion co., Illinois in 1905.
ii. SAMANTHA H MELTON, b. abt. 1843.
iii. NANCY CAROLINE MELTON, b. 16 Apr 1844, Mt. Vernon, Jefferson co.,
Illinois; d. 27 Dec 1915, Xenia, Clay co., Illinois; m. RICHARD JEFFERSON
HOLTSCLAW, 1 Jul 1866, Clay, Illinois; b. 27 Jun 1815, Barren co., Kentucky;
d. 7 Nov 1900, Clay co., Illinois.
iv. MARY A MELTON, b. 1845; m. JOSEPH GREEN KNIGHT, 24 Apr 1870,
Jefferson co., Illinois; b. abt. 1845.
v. MARTHA ELIZABETH MELTON, b. 1847 in Jefferson co., Illinois; d. in
Arkansas. She married (1) A J WATSON. She married (2) PINCKNEY E WELLS 14
Jun 1883 in Jefferson co., Illinois, son of WILLIAM WELLS and ELIZABETH
LIVINGSTON. He was born 11 Nov 1825 in Jefferson co., Illinois, and died 30
Jun 1904 in Howard co., Arkansas
vi. JAMES WILLIAM MELTON, b. 14 Jan 1849, Mt. Vernon, Jefferson co,
Illinois; d. 25 Feb 1926, Milwaukie, Clackamas co., Oregon. He married
MARCELLA JOSEPHINE TUBBS 23 Feb 1873 in Louisville, Clay, Illinois, daughter
of E J TUBBS and RACHEL GALIHER. She was born 19 Feb 1857 in Xenia, Clay
co., Illinois, and died 30 May 1956 in Gresham, Multnomah co., Oregon.
vii. THOMAS M MELTON, b. 1855; m. (1) SARAH C DICKERSON, 15 Aug 1878;
m. (2) SUSAN B CHAMBERS, 20 Mar 1881, Xenia, Clay, Illinois.

So far, I have been totally unsuccessful in finding out anything about Thomas
Melton, his parents or siblings. Do you know if he is in any way related to
your Nathan Melton?
