BENTON DEATHS

October 4, 2002


JAMES C. JONES
MULKEYTOWN

James JONES 80 died Oct 3, 2002 in V. A. Hsopital in Marion.

Services 2 pm Saturday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Rev. John LEWIS, officiating and burial in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call Friday after 6 pm to the funeral home.

He was born March 19, 1922 in Mulkeytown son of Arnold and Clara DREIBILIS JONES and he married Gladys WATSON and she died Dec. 15, 1995

He retired from Du Quion Supply after 42 years and was a member of VFW in DuQuion and American Legion in Christopher. He was a Vet of WW II.

Survivors are three sons, Cecil JONES of DuQuion, Charles JONES of Bellevue, Neb. And Jim JONES of Mulkeyetown; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and one sister Jessie REED of Christopher and a sister-in-law, Jerry JONES of DuQuion.



DONALD LEE JOHNSON
OSBORNE< IDAHO

Donald JOHNSON formerly of Macedonia died Sept 30, 2002 in V. A Hospital, Spokane, Wash.
He was born in Illinois on March 21, 1925 and married Joann SNYDER on March 21, 1946.
Survivors besides his wife are daughters; Carol (Robin) REED, Anita (Larry) KELLY and sons; Mike (Jodie) JOHNSON and Donald Dee (SUE) JOHNSON and a sister-in-law Mona Lee SNYDER and brother-in-law James SNYDER, seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

He was of the Christina faith and a Vet of WW II and worked in the mines for many years in Idaho.

Preceded in death by his parents, three sons; Robert, Roger and Courtney and a daughter Denny and two brothers and three sisters.



MANDY GRIGGS
WEST FRANKFORT


Mandy GRIGGS 26, died Oct. 2, 2002 near Benton.

She was born Oct 21, 1975 in Benton Harbor, Mich to Jimmy and Glenda BANKS SAFFELL,

Survivors are her husbands Marty R. GRIGGS of West Frankfort, and three sons, Tyler and Clayton GIRGGS and Kole PRITCHETT and he parents of Christopher, one sisters Novella CASEY of Logan and a brother Stephen PENDERGAST of Florida. Maternal Grandparents, Glen and Marie BANKS of Benton Harbor, Mich and her grandfather Wayne SAFFELL of Ina and a special friend Quinton PRITCHETT of Marion.

Preceded in deathe by her grandmother Novella SAFFELL.

She was employed by Crownline Boats in West Frankfort.

She was a graduated of Thompsonville High School and was a member of the basketball team.

Services 1 pm Sat. at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Bobby WINNINGER officiating and burial in Jones Cemetery near Benton. Friends may call to the funeral home on Saturday after 10 am to the funeral home.


GRADY GWEN LEWIS
BENTON


G. GWEN LEWIS 70 of Benton died Oct. 2, 2002 following a truck accident.

Funeral services will be 3 pm Saturday in Morton-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton with rev. Harl R. LEWIS, officiating and burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Valier. With Military rites and friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday to the funeral home.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Benton. He was a coal miner, truck driver and farmer. A 1950 graduated of Sesser High School and he ran the elevator in Mulkeytown and a member of the First Baptist Church in Sesser.

He was born Aug 13, 1932 the son of Offa and Lida Emma MARTIN LEWIS.

Survivors are a son Martin Gewn LEWIS (Vivkie) LEWIS of Cottondale, Ala and a daughter, Kathy and husband Retired Col Richard DEASON of Leesburg, Va. And seven grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and a sister Donna (Dempsey) TUCKER of Benton,

His parents preceded him in death,



BYFORD HOUSEWORTH
CHRISTOPHER

Byford Modert HOUSEWORTH 83 died Oct 3, 2002 at V. A. Hospital in Marion.

Funeral services 2 pm Sunday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Rev. Glenn DRYDEN, officiating and burial in Butler Cemetery north of Buckner. Friends may call to the funeral homer after 6 pm on Sat.

He was born in Belle Rive, Jefferson Co Il on March 23, 1919 to James Hnery and Emma Martha WHITE HOUSEWORTH and he married March 30, 1941 in Missouri to Aleta Fern HAMILTON and she survives.

He was retired from Del City, Oklahoma City after 14 years of service. And he also worked for Christopher St. Dept. He got a purple heart in WW II.

Preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, James and Dicy FLANNIGAN HOUSEWORK WINKLER and Calvin and Mary Ann DOFIELD WHITE> brothers; James, Ambrose, Lloyd and Wayne HOUSEWORTH and a sister Leona ATCHISON and a daughter-in-law Sharon COPER HOUSEWORTH>

Survivers are his wife, two sons; Gary (Joanne) HOUSEWORTH of Sesser and Roger (Robin) HOUSEWORTH of Carterville. Four grandsons Dale HOUSEWORTH of Buckner, Grey (Mary Ann) HOUSWEORTH of Herrin, Brent HOUSEWORTH of Marion and Brian HOUSEWORTH of Sesser and 3 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law Lucille HOUSEWORTH of Ewing.
