I hope can help here. I don't know that much about everyone listed
here, but the 1st child, and I've seen this mistake somewhere else, is
that IF there is a Virginia Rebecca Hawkins, she is NOT the one that
married Rufus Whitlock. Rebecca J. Hawkins, a daughter of Joseph and
Amelia{Milly} Whitlow HAWKINS, married 1] Rufus D. Whitlock, 2] Francis
Marion Roberson, 3]James Barnfield---this from her obit, and the dates
you have for Virginia Rebecca Hawkins match Rebecca J. Please note her
birth date of 1851, a daughter of John and Susan Stamper HAWKINS at
about 63 Y/O age, according to their birth dates of about 1788?
Parentage of Amelia Whitlow Hawkins is correct, except to add that we
are 99.9% certain that her mother, Nancy Whitlow is a Davis, daughter of
George and Sara McElroy DAVIS of Ashe CO. NC. Nancys' sister Amelia
moved with her from Washington Co. IN. to Jefferson Co. ILL about 1846,
per a letter written by their brother William Davis of Wash Co. IN to
the folks in NC., in which he states he hasn't heard from his sister
Nancy and Milly who moved to JCI. NOT certain, just suspected Milly, who
we have as a birth date of 1801 in NC., may have been the one married to
John Hawkins. Note, you have some of these Hawkins children born in
Indiana, about the same time we have found William and Nancy Whitlow in
IN., and Sara and Moses Davis Hawkins born in/after 1848 in JCI.
Now, William and Nancy Whitlow also had a daughter Minerva that
married Nelson Aldrich's brother Charles.
Those are the obvious errors to me, but, Pat, correct me if i'm
wrong on any of this. Look for Pat Corona to reply and offer some more
insight to this puzzle. Hope I haven't muddied the waters. John Whitlow
