Dear Sheldon,
My observation has probably been considered so I realize it is nothing
profound, so I will just mention it, and if it is of no value, everybody
can use the delete key.
I don't know exactly when Lazarus and Eli Webb, Joel Page, John Wren,
and others who were very early at Middle Fork church, physically left
Kentucky, but I'm pretty sure the records show that Middle Fork was first
organized as an "arm" of East Fork Church in Franklin County. East Fork
is listed in the oldest existing minutes of Little River Association of
Kentucky (1818) - but unfortunately the minutes from 1813-1818 don't seem
to have survived. But the fact that East Fork is listed in 1818, and was
not added that year, tells me that East Fork was in existence by the
summer or fall of 1817. I think it is possible that East Fork church may
have been organized as much as two or three years before 1817, but I
can't prove it.
But it appears to me that Lazarus and Eli Webb and their wives, and
Joel Page, John Wren, and others who were early at Middle Fork, had been
members of East Fork and were dismissed to form an arm in September 1818,
which was organized into Middle Fork church in 1819.
I wish the records of East Fork could be found to answer these
questions for us. But it seems very unlikely that they will turn up at
this late date.
Sincerely,
Robert Webb
