This is a long shot to trace my ancestor Lementine LEWIS, supposedly
born in Chatham Co, NC on May 6, 1818. Family stories say that her family
moved to TN or GA where she grew up. Lementine may have met her future
husband while visiting a sister in IL, probably in Jersey Co. Lementine
married George Washington SLATEN in Jersey Co., IL in 1837. The SLATENS
came to IL from Jackson Co., GA. Lementine died in Jersey Co in 1889.
On the 1850 Jersey Co. census there's a John W. LEWIS, age 20, born
TN, living with Lementine and George W. SLATEN. Can anyone identify him?
Does anyone have a LEWIS female(Lementine's sister) born in TN or GA
(married to ???) who was living in Jersey Co. about 1830-1840?
Lementine LEWIS and George W. SLATEN had at least 10 children in IL:
John Pleasant, Henry Lewis, Sarinda Jane, George W., Louisa Margaret,
Robert Lindsay, Mary Leah, Leander Thomas, Alzada Bell, and James
Williamson.
Does anyone recognize this LEWIS family? Lementine's father may have
been named Henry or John LEWIS. I'm happy to share my data and appreciate
any help. Thanks!
