I am new to the list. I would appreciate any tidbit of help you might have.

I am researching my gg-grandfather

Andrew McGuire (Maguire?) from Ireland
+ Mary Smith from Ireland

He was a farmer. He applied for US citizenship in Jersey Co. in 1869.
Finalized in 1874. The papers give his last name as McGuire.

He and Mary had a son, my g-grandfather
Timothy Meredith Maguire
b Oct. 9, 1877
d 1956
+ Sarah Ann Whitehouse

Andrew and Mary had a daughter (no name given on birth record) on Aug. 10,
1883. The record states they lived in Elsah.

Can you give me any advice about where to look for more information? I have
several requests out for lookups (census of 1870 and 1880) but haven't had a
response.

I visited the Jersey Co. library with no luck. I visited the Greene Co.
Hist. Soc. with no luck.

I found the naturalization papers and the daughter's birth record at the
Jersey Co. Courthouse. The staff was very helpful.

The Jersey Co. Hist. Soc. was closed the day I was in town.
