G. Carpenter was George W. Carpenter of Calhoun County, Illinois and wrote a
few books but known mostly for the one book, "Calhoun is my Kingdom," the
Sesquicentennial History of Calhoun County, Illinois. It was written in 1967
and it is a small paper back book of about 164 pages.
I have been asked what type of history book I'd want to write about Calhoun
County, today. First, it would contain the known history of Calhoun as all
history books contain. But, I'd fill the rest of the book with genealogy of
the surnames associated with the history and the present day of Calhoun
County.
I wouldn't leave out anything. I tell about the good and the bad about every
thing. It would a history of whatever happen and not hand picked to resemble
the Bible as a holy grail of how wonderful Calhoun is.
