AN UNRULY DOG
"A boy living near HUGHLETT's furnace was riding up Main street,
near Tyler House, on Saturday afternoon, when a vicious dog jumped out
and seized the horse by the flank. The boy was thrown off heavily to
the ground and stepped upon by the horse, in its struggle to get away.
Fortunately the boy was not seriously hurt, but he owes nothing to the
dog for the preservation of his life. Lest the owner of that canine
should have further trouble of the same kind, he had better put his pet
through a sausage machine."

A CHANGE
"Our Book-keeper, Mr. Henry NELSON, who has been connected with this
office for the last fifteen months, leaves us to-day for the purpose of
making preparations for a journey to the gold mines of Idaho. We regret
to part with him. Few young men of his age possess as good business
qualifications as he. We predict for him a brilliant career in life.
We wish him success.
Mr. Ira A. HILL, will hereafter be the bookkeeper, and Cashier of
this office. We have know Mr. HILL from his earliest boyhood, and are
satisfied that those having business with this office will find him
gentlemanly and accommodating."

DUNLEITH ITEMS
"The great amount of pork which has been accumulating at the depots
in Dunleith, is rapidly being reduced. The Illinois Central is carrying
off an average of thirty-five carloads per day. The remainder is not
injured, as it froze so hard the first part of January that the frost is
not yet out.
E. R. PAUL, formerly editor of the Galena Currier, is engaged with
C. H. MERRY in the receiving freight office.
N. B. BRATT, Esq., returned last Saturday from the East, where he
had been to purchase a large amount of hardware for his store.
D. R. BURT went to New York, las week, with a large lot of Burt's
Eagle Reapers, consigned to California from the extensive manufactory of

C. S. & S. BURT of Dunleith.
G. J. EDWARDS is doing an unusually large business this season, in
the lumber trade. The prospect is that quite an amount of building will
be done in town during the coming season.
Fred REBER, of the St. Charles House, is erecting a commodious house
on the corner of Sinsinnawa and Jordan avenues.
Several of the citizens of Dunleith have caught the gold fever, and
will be off for Idaho early in the spring."
