Casualties

July 23- William Shea of East Galena struck by Northwestern engine at Meeker
street crossing and fatally injured.

July 26 Mrs. Thomas Bastian of East Galena slightly injured by being
thrown from a vehicle near Burtons bridge.

July 30 Little daughter of James Carey on Franklin street accidently shot
in the shoulder but not seriously injured.

Aug. 1 John McCarthy, driver in the employ of D. A. Taylor & Co., overcome
by heat and falls form wagon receiving severe injuries. Recovered.

Aug. 9 Chicago Great Western passenger train ditched at Elizabeth.
Rolling stock badly damaged, but no serious injuries to passengers or train
crew.

Aug. 11- James Yundt has narrow escape from drowning in Mississippi river.

Aug. 18 Thomas Carey falls down a shaft at Kennedy mines on the Oldenberg
farm and received a badly fractured ankle.

Aug. 25 Fred Beismann suffered a fractured ankle while playing ball at
Elizabeth as a member of the Galena team.

Aug. 27 Emil Werner of East Dubuque accidently drowned in cistern at his
home.

Aug 29 Little son of Alfred Sincox falls down stairs at home on Meeker
street and breaks an arm.

Aug. 289 Michael Nugent of Apple River drowned in Pecatonica river at
Darlington.

Aug. 29 Mrs. Bergman of Dewey avenue severely bitten on the wrist by a
dog.

Aug. 29 Charles Metzger, employ at C. Eulberg & Sons brewery has one hand
badly cut by exploding beer bottle.

Sept. 3 Harper Harris of Rush township has both hands injured by having
them drawn into a pully by the rope, while unloading hay.

Sept. 6- Andrew Bonadurer accidently struck by hammer while at work in the
Harris mine at Benton and right arm broken.

Sept. 8 John Short, a stranger from Chicago, instantly killed by being
struck by an Illinois Central passenger train near Scales Mound.

Sept. 13 Vehicle containing a party of Galena ladies overturned while
riding on the turnpike and Mesdames Newhall, Green and Wann are injured.
All recover.

Sept. 13 Team of horses owned by John Menzimer run away and smash up two
vehicles. William Vincent injured and has narrow escape for his life.
