--"The House Committee on Public Lands have decided to report the bill
extending the privbileges of the Homestead act to the insurrectionary
States, giving soldiers and sailors pribilege to enter upon such lands."

"THE UNDERSIGNED, TEAMSTERS and Draymen of the city of Galena, do hereby
establish the following scale of prices at which we will hereafter work
viz:

For all double teams, with one man, per day $4.00

For loading each car with grain (ready sacked at Warehouse or store,
from which we take it, and put in the wagon by the owners) per car-load
(this includes Draymen) $2.50

For hauling (with double team) all loads around the lower town, (not
including Bluffs or Hills, per load .50

For hauling (with double team) on Bluffs & Hills, per load .75

For hauling (with double team, or single horse and dray), each pig of
lead .01

For hauling cord-wood, with double team on bluffs and hills, per cord
.75

For hauling cord-wood around lower town, per cord .50

For each dray load from Franklin St. to Gear St. and opposite these
streets in East Galena, including loads to Depot,
per load .25

Outside of the above boundries and within the corporation .30

The above scale is not to include work done outside of the old
corporation; and to the above scale of prices we do each of us
respectively bind ourselves under the penalty of twenty (20) dollars, to
be sued for in the name of any one of the undersigned, before any
Justice of the Peace in the city of Galena, and the proceeds when
collected to be paid into the hands of our Treasurer, hereafter to be
appointed by the undersigned each and every one of us hereby waiving all
and every technical or legal objection which may be made to the manner
of sueing for and collecting said penalty, and binding ourselves in
consideration of the mutual advantage to be gained by each of us in this
aggrement, to pay said penalty upon any neglect or refusal to comply
with the foregoing scale of prices; this to be binding on us only in the
event that all teamsters and draymen in the city of Galena join in
signing this and comply with its terms:

owner can have the same by calling at this office and paying charges."

EDITORIAL CHANGE

"Our former partner, Mr. George K. SHAW, has again become editor and
proprietor of the Platteville Witness. Shaw is a good writer, We wish
him success."

GALENA SCHOOLS

"The summer term of the public schools of this city commences
to-day.-It is highly important that all pupils should be present the
first week."

THE RIVER

"The river is clear of ice up to Lake Pepin, and boats are running up
to the foot of the lake."

MILITARY APPOINTMENT

"Major General C. C. WASHBURN, of Wisconsin, has been ordered to the
temporary command of the troops of the 9th Army Corps, now assembled at
Annapolis, Md."

LOYD PARDONED

"The Platteville Witness says that Thomas B. LOYD, tried at the last
term of the Grant County Circuit Court, for the shooting of Dr. TAWNEY
at Beetown last fall, and sentenced to two years imprisonment at Waupun,
has been pardoned by Gov. Lewis, at the solicitation of a long list of
petitioners, including nine of the twelve jurymen who sat at his trial."

SMALL POX

"There are se eral cases of small pox in Guilford and other adjoining
towns. A few cases are said to have occurred in this city. This
unpleasant disease is raging a considerable extent in Ogle and
Stephenson counties."
