Seeking info. pertaining to immigrant ancestor, Johann Knecht (John Kent), who was born in Prussia/Germany in 1828, immigrated in 1840s, served in U.S.-Mexican War, 1846-1848, married Mary Gokey on 12-1-1851 in Jo Daviess Co., IL. She was born in Jo Daviess Co. (possibly Mill Creek) to Gabriel Gokey and Sophia Shennet/Chenet. Gabriel was born in French Canada and Sophia was born in OH.

John and Mary (Gokey) Kent settled on a farm in Thompson Twp., Jo Daviess Co., IL and had 13 children: Harriet, Julia, Victoria, George, Charles, John, Alice, Albert, Edward, Christian, Robert James, Emma R. and Margus. Margus drowned in 1881 at the age of 2 on the family farm. Harriet died at the age of 16 in 1868. Both are buried at Zion Presbyterian Church cemetery in Shapville.

After Margus' death, the family moved to a farm in the Apple River area and later moved to Byrd's Creek, Richland Co., WI. Any info. on this family would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!
