Subject: [ILJOHNSO-L] DESPAIN - PARKMAN - NELSON - LOWREY - CONVERSE
Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 02:33:15 EDT
Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you are researching the DESPAIN - PARKMAN - NELSON
- LOWREY - CONVERSE families of Johnson co., IL.
I have 2 Shannon Co., MO. DESPAIN brothers that I am researching. They were
born in Johnson Co., IL. James C. DESPAIN b. abt. 1856 Johnson Co.,
IL......and David Ada/Adron DESPAIN b. Feb. 23, 1857 Johnson Co., IL. There
was also a sister - Emma Catherine (DESPAIN) CONVERSE.....and brother - Kaleb
DESPAIN. Emma & Kaleb may have been half siblings. I don't know if there
were any more children.
The parents of David & James were John DESPAIN & Martha J. (PARKMAN). Martha
died Dec. 14, 1859. I don't know when John, the father, died.
James & David went to live with the brother of their mother at about the ages
of 4 & 5, 1860-1861. This was Wm. R. & Permelia (NELSON) PARKMAN. They
relocated to Shannon Co., MO. and took the boys with them, 1860-1870.
They show up in the 1870 Shannon Co., MO. census with the PARKMANS and the 2
DESPAIN boys living in the same household.
In the 1880 Shannon Co., MO. census there are more relatives living in the
Wm. R. PARKMAN household, with the surnames of NELSON & LOWREY.....and a
widowed friend & son by the name WIDGGERS.
I'm trying to determine who the parents & siblings of John DESPAIN were, when
John died, did he remarry after the death of Martha, and were there more
children than the 4 that I know of. The family had TN. & KY. connections.
Thank you for any help. It will be greatly appreciated.
Gloria
