David Hodges, Jr. and family were living in Union County Illinois at the
time of the 1850 census. By 1860, Rebecca had died and the family was
living in Johnson County Illinois near his brother Jesse Hodges in the
vicinity of Vienna, Illinois. David, Jr. may have moved to Johnson County
after he appraised the estate of Delila BEGGS widow of Isaac in Union
County in 1857. However, there may have been movement back and forth or
the family lived near the boundary because Zolinda gave her birthplace as
Johnson County, Illinois. Her marriage record to Milton Flinn lists her
mother as a Hall. The only Hall near David Hodges, Sr. in both 1830 and
1840 census records of Calloway Co. was Richard Hall.

David's probate records were filed on 16 February 1874 by his administrator
Alfred Turner and recorded 18 February 1874. In his statement, Mr. Turner
said that David's property was appraised 20 February, 1872 by his heirs
Nancy, Emma and Jesse. It says that Jesse was a minor living at home at
the time of death. I suppose that David's death must have been close to
February 20, 1872.

Faithy's first husband, Francis Marion Mercer, was born ca 1839 in Illinois
to Thomas M. and Minerva Mercer. Her name and date of death were given in
her grandson Leslie Gilmore's funeral book. It was written in later by
someone using a pencil. They must have asked Margaret about it and added
it in.

Jesse and Faithy were married by her brother Nicholas C. Jones. Apparently
they lived near the community of Cypress in the southwest part of Johnson
County. Grandma Margaret said that she grew up in an area of cypress
swamps and that when someone went back to the area years later they found
the area she had lived in was covered over by water. Some of the Jones and
Hodges families have been located in cemeteries near Cypress.

-------------

Before she died, my great grandmother Maggie Hodges Gilmore told my mother
that her father had brought her to MO after her mother's death but he left
two of her Brothers behind with relatives in Johnson Co. IL.

Does anyone have any information on these two brothers?

Does anyone know where Francis Marion Mercer or Fathy Jones Mercer Hodges
were buried?
