Dear Debra:
I have a little information on the Collins family-- (I read your querie on the Johnson County html-Tim Casey)
>From Johnson County Guardianship and Apprenticeship Records 1814-1817 the following:
Nancy COLLINS, aged 8 years, was apprenticed to Mathew SPARKS in 1816 until the reached the age of 18 years. She was to receive one year's schooling and when set free was to receive a suit of Sunday clothers and a bed worth $30 (pg. 90)
Jeremiah COLLINS, aged about 12 years, orphan, was apprenticed to Giles PALMERLY in 1816 until COLLINS reached the age of 21 years. Jeremiah was to learn to read, write, and cipher to the rule of three and when set free was to get a good young horse worth $80 and a saddle and bridle (pg. 90).
John WELDON was appointed guardian of Joseph COLLINS, Abram COLLINS, Nancy COLLINS, and Napoleon COLLINS, minor children of Lewis COLLINS dcd. in 1817 (pg. 103).
==================
Nancy Collins married Nathan Walker 3 Jul 1823, Union Co., Book A, pg 11
I believe her children were Benjamin C., N.B., and Polly. Nathan Walker died while the children were young.
Nancy next married a Nichols (?)
Mrs. Nancy Nichols married Jacob Norricks 4 April 1847 in Jonesboro, Union Co., IL by W. B. Grammer, J.P. (I have a copy)
===============================
1850 Census Union County
Family 393 Jacob Norricks 58 M Farmer
Nancy 40 F
B. C. Walker 25 M Farmer
Mary Ann 18 F
N B Walker 22 M Farmer
Note: Jacob Norricks/Norrix is my ggg-grandfather. I don't know what happened to Nancy but Jacob married again 14 Nov.1861 a Mrs. Minerva Jones Nancy may have died by this time.
Note: I think Napoleon Bonapart Collins helped raise the Walker children. There's a biography of one of the children in a Union County History Book. I copied the page but some of the article didn't get printed so I am not sure which Walker it was. I could go back to the library and get a good copy of it, if you would like.
Hope this little bit of information helps.
