Dear friends,
I have been corresponding with Louise Erikson who very kindly did some lookups for me, and has been a sounding board as well. As you know I am searching for the parental family of my GG-Grandfather, Jordan Goddard, and have had no luck thus far. The suggestion was made to me that perhaps he had been counted and identified in the 1850 census, but perhaps under a different name, such as a proper name or even a nickname.
Alas, there are no possibilities for Jordan in the Johnson County Census for 1850. Jordan was living there in 1860, however.
In the 1850 census for Williamson County, just to the north of Johnson County, there is a household of a John Calhoun Goddard, born approx. 1797 and died 1855, buried Cereal Springs Cemetery, married to Susanna Casey, daughter of Levi Casey and Mary Sherrell, born approx 1804. They were parents to a large brood including a "John", age 14 in the 1850 census. I believe "John" could possibly be my Jordan, as in "John Jordan Goddard", or "Jordan John Goddard". I believe this is possible because of the birthplaces of his parents (NC for the Father and TN for the mother). Jordan reported in 1880 and 1900 a combination of NC and TN for the birthplaces of his parents. LDS Records have no marriage information on this John, which in my theory, could possibly be because as an adult he was known as Jordan. Anyway, I hope Tim Casey is reading this as he has alluded to a Goddard/Casey marriage in previous correspondence with me. I am going to request the probate or will information o!
n John and Susanna; in the meantime does anyone know of any contradictory information that would weaken this supposition that "John" is "Jordan". Especially I would like marriage information, since I know the identity of Jordan's only marriage.
