The 1870 census of Johnson County lists the following people in Elvira
Township:
Joshua Powell,age 65, apparently widowed, resident with his son David (family
161),
Sarah Tripp, age 60, wife of Nathaniel Tripp (family 131).
They are the only ones of those names listed in the county in 1870.

Joshua Powell married Sarah Tripp 7 Apr 1873 in Johnson County.

I assume that Sarah Tripp was widowed between 1870 and 1873 and then married
Joshua Powell. Can anyone confirm (or deny) this assumption? Does anyone
know the maiden name of Sarah Tripp? I just want to know who gg-grandpa
married.
