Incidentally, in line with what you mentioned about the land grands in
southern Illinois---In the early 1800's, until sometime between 1810 & 1820,
Christian County, Kentucky encompanced all of western Kentucky, & was set aside
originally to be used as land grants for Revolutionary War veterans. These
grants fell to the children of some of those veterans, which is why so many went
that way, I would assume, instead of into the more eastern parts of the
state.
