I have an ancestor named "Sina" Edwards, born 1810, Wilson County, Tennessee. Died 1860 Williamson County, Illinois. Her given name is clearly shown on census reports as Musina. When she died, her surname was O'Neal and she is buried at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Cemetery, Attila, Williamson County, Illinois. I think her tombstone spells it "Sinah". Debbie McArdle

Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky, seems to have been a destination
for many people leaving Virginia. Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Illinois,
which was not far across the Ohio River, was the town where Illinois land
sales and grants were conducted, and many of the Christian County, KY,
people moved to Gallatin County, IL, on their way westward. They often
ended up in Johnson and Union Counties.
I have no other information about these people other than the clue that
Sina was a nickname for Frances and that the name Frances was carried
through the female line for many generations after Sina. Perhaps that might
be a clue to you in looking at your STOKES information.
I certainly appreciate your help in this matter.
Kathleen
