Subject: Re: [ILKANE-L] Kane Co. land records?

Hi Kerry & list friends,
I sure hope whomever might answer your question will post it to the list, as
I've hunted and searched for Patent records of first claim land sales, bounty
or grants from the Fed to my BINNIE ancestors in Dundee, to no great avail.
I found one for a man who must have been an early arrival of my clan (Lewis,
ca. 1845), but no others of several of the Binnie/Binney men who settled the
area (ca. ~1848). They were among some of the first few waves of folks to
settle the area, but certainly not the first. Perhaps they purchased
portions of Newman, Russell or Dempster's claims in Dundee. I found quite a
few Patent listings here:

gopher://uicvm.cc.uic.edu:70/11/library/libdb/landsale (IL Fed Land
Sale)
& http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ (all US; enter valid zip code)

I'm in much need of a title or deed index. I'd love to know if the Kane Co.
assessor's office has some helpful aids to researchers. Anyone have some
experience with this area, who would kindly lend their insights?

Thanks for any tips or help you can give. Great wishes for success in your
hunts!
Yours, Terra --
