Does anyone know what land records are available for
Kane County? Is there a guarantee/guarantor index that
covers the mid 1800s?

I'm trying to find a record of the purchase (between 1855
and 1860) and sale (after 1860) of land by William O'BRIEN
(my g-g-gf) in Batavia Township. I am trying to find his
place of death and burial and am hoping that learning when
he sold his property might provide some clues. According to
the 1860 census of Kane County, he owned real estate valued
at $1600.

Kerry check the Bureau Land Management web site. The have all land records
for the midwest, or as they call it the Eastern States. You should be able
to find something here. They will ask for your zip code, but that is just
for demographics. Then just click on IL and enter your info on the form.
