Subject: [ILKANE] MATHEWSON obits, of Blackberry Twp, Kane Co, IL
Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 01:42:09 EDT

These are the obits referenced through the Elburn Public Library's index for
the surname MATHEWSON. Unfortunately, it did not contain the names that
Carol was looking for (John who died in 1886 and Elizabeth in 1903). I hope
that there is info here that might lead to the folks you are searching for.
Might they be the parents of the oldest of these people referenced here,
since some obits indicate that they moved here with their parents from Staten
island, NY.

A Jacob Mathewson is also noted as being the Postmaster of Blackberry Station
in 1878, and his Civil War record was:
89th Infantry, Company K, enlisted 15 Aug, 1862, mustered out 10 June 1865,
as Sargeant. These facts were taken from "Past and Present of Kane County,"
Wm. LeBaron & Co., Chicago, 1878, pgs. 479 and 513, respectively.
Name noted as J. J. Matherson in the Company K listings and as Jacob
Matthewson when referred to as the present postmaster.

an active and successful official of this bank until ill health caused him to
resign nearly two years ago.  He has served as president of the village
board, as supervisor and precinct committeeman.  He was a member of the local
Masonic order and of the Sycamore Commandery of Knights Templar.
Mr. Mathewson was wedded in Elburn October 24, 1886, to DeEtta Olive
